My reply to a GE2017 e-mail from Tim Farron

I keep getting, along with many other people, e-mails from the political parties here in the UK trying to entice me to vote for them.  I could unsubscribe from their e-mail lists but I like to hear from the parties because it tells me the kind of direction they are all heading in at any one time – a sort of shorthand instead of wading through huge articles or speeches until the manifestos come out.

Well, I just received an e-mail from Tim Farron entitled “No to Theresa. No to Jeremy.” And it seemed so hypocritical not to reply that I did so here is the full text of Tim Farron’s e-mail followed by my reply.

Hi Myles,

This election is your chance to change the direction of our country.

If you aren't happy with the direction our country is going in, then the choice you face is clear. The Liberal Democrats are the only party that can do that.

Theresa May's Conservatives won't and Jeremy Corbyn's Labour can't.

That is why today I've announced that we will not enter into any coalition deal at Westminster with either of them.

Every vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to stop a Hard Brexit, keep us in the Single Market and to build a Britain that is open, tolerant and united.

But we can only do that if we elect more Liberal Democrat MPs on Thursday 8th June - and need you with us to do that. Say you're with us. Add your name today:

The reasons for this decision are simple. Under no conditions can we sign up to Theresa May's Hard Brexit agenda; a hard Brexit will be a disaster for Britain. It risks crashing our economy and leaving us isolated on the global stage.

And Jeremy Corbyn would be a disaster for the country - he has no plan for the country, our economy and offers no leadership – and as Labour leader, every time it has mattered he has given Theresa May a blank cheque on Brexit.

Our goal in this election is to change the direction of our country. Help us do that Myles, say you're voting to change the direction of our country on Thursday 8th June:
Thank you. Together, we can change the direction of our country.

Tim

Tim Farron
Leader of the Liberal Democrats

Dear Tim,

I voted Lib Dem in 2010 because I thought that Nick Clegg deserved a shot at being PM.  His performance in the PM debates for that election were amazing.  He was a man I thought I could trust with my vote...and then your party threw in with the Tories backing their vicious Health & Social Care Bill and the cuts to disability benefits (of which I am a current recipient).  Your party supported the Bedroom Tax as well as many other discriminatory policies against the poor, sick and disabled including the hike in university tuition fees that your party was supposedly completely opposed to.  If you really think I would even think about voting Lib Dem ever again, you are extremely mistaken.  Your party cannot be trusted to keep its word or stick to the principles that it was supposedly founded on so how can you be trusted ever?

Regards,

Myles Cook

I managed to restrain myself from telling him and his party to “go fuck yourselves” but I’m really wishing I hadn’t now.

If you're interested in the Angela Eagle situation...

I rarely post links to other blogs but I do if they illuminate a current situation and with Angela Eagle finally poking her head out from the hole she dug for herself when she challenged Jeremy Corbyn to appear on last night's Question Time on BBC1, I think it's time to challenge her hypocricy when she called Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of the Scottish Government, "opportunistic" with regards to her calls for a new Scottish independence referendum.  Eagle was conveniently forgetting that she was being opportunistic when she challenged Corbyn for the Labour leadership following a vile orchestrated attempted coup by the Blairites in the Parliamentary Labour Party.

So, I have decided to be opportunistic by posting this link that uncovers what is currently going on in Eagle's consituency.

Yet another letter to the Thurrock Gazette

I understand that there has to be some level of editing of letters for publication but did they really have to cut out the best part of the letter I sent them?  And, most annoyingly, they printed the word "Government" instead of what I put which was 'government' (a mark of disdain against this bunch of undemocratic, divisive morons).

Here’s the printed version followed by the unedited version…

How coincidental it seems that now we have a Tory administration running Thurrock Council the Tory 'government' suddenly finds £40m of funding down the back of the sofa to spruce up Grays Town Centre.  For a 'government' that keeps pleading poverty in order to make savage cuts to vital services and equally vital welfare payments to the sick and disabled to then find this money smacks of bribery – keep voting for us and see what we can do.

While I agree that Grays Town Centre needs improving, don’t you think that we should have better priorities at the moment?  I mean £40m could certainly help in sorting out the problems with Social Care that our beloved Tory ‘government’ has caused with its austerity agenda.

It was nauseating to see the photo of Jackie Doyle-Price and Cllr Rob Gledhill standing by the level crossing with big smiles on their faces as they bare-facedly bribe the electorate of Thurrock on what is basically a publicity stunt to misdirect their attention away from more urgent matters.

It seems that the real message is ‘look at the shiny, shiny’ whilst people’s lives suffer behind closed doors because they aren’t getting the level of service they deserve.

Shame on anyone who falls for this shameless bribery.
