I keep
getting, along with many other people, e-mails from the political parties here
in the UK trying to entice me to vote for them.
I could unsubscribe from their e-mail lists but I like to hear from the
parties because it tells me the kind of direction they are all heading in at
any one time – a sort of shorthand instead of wading through huge articles or
speeches until the manifestos come out.
Well, I
just received an e-mail from Tim Farron entitled “No to Theresa. No to Jeremy.”
And it seemed so hypocritical not to reply that I did so here is the full text
of Tim Farron’s e-mail followed by my reply.
Hi Myles,This election is your chance to change the direction of our country. If you aren't happy with the direction our country is going in, then the choice you face is clear. The Liberal Democrats are the only party that can do that.Theresa May's Conservatives won't and Jeremy Corbyn's Labour can't.That is why today I've announced that we will not enter into any coalition deal at Westminster with either of them.Every vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to stop a Hard Brexit, keep us in the Single Market and to build a Britain that is open, tolerant and united. But we can only do that if we elect more Liberal Democrat MPs on Thursday 8th June - and need you with us to do that. Say you're with us. Add your name today:The reasons for this decision are simple. Under no conditions can we sign up to Theresa May's Hard Brexit agenda; a hard Brexit will be a disaster for Britain. It risks crashing our economy and leaving us isolated on the global stage. And Jeremy Corbyn would be a disaster for the country - he has no plan for the country, our economy and offers no leadership – and as Labour leader, every time it has mattered he has given Theresa May a blank cheque on Brexit. Our goal in this election is to change the direction of our country. Help us do that Myles, say you're voting to change the direction of our country on Thursday 8th June:Thank you. Together, we can change the direction of our country.TimTim FarronLeader of the Liberal Democrats
Dear Tim,I voted Lib Dem in 2010 because I thought that Nick Clegg deserved a shot at being PM. His performance in the PM debates for that election were amazing. He was a man I thought I could trust with my vote...and then your party threw in with the Tories backing their vicious Health & Social Care Bill and the cuts to disability benefits (of which I am a current recipient). Your party supported the Bedroom Tax as well as many other discriminatory policies against the poor, sick and disabled including the hike in university tuition fees that your party was supposedly completely opposed to. If you really think I would even think about voting Lib Dem ever again, you are extremely mistaken. Your party cannot be trusted to keep its word or stick to the principles that it was supposedly founded on so how can you be trusted ever?Regards,Myles Cook
I
managed to restrain myself from telling him and his party to “go fuck yourselves”
but I’m really wishing I hadn’t now.
